Virtually unchanged since the last century, this historic home contains family heirlooms, furnishings and priceless treasures of the Harris family as well as a re-created 19th century garden. Built in 1834 for Captain John and Amelia Harris, the house remained in the Harris family until 1959 when it was given to the city complete with family furnishings and priceless treasures. Although surrounded by the city today, the house and its gardens are a place of beauty and tranquility. During the summer months, traditional teas are served in the afternoons.

Tours of the house are available throughout the year, but are especially popular at Christmas when the house is decorated with the assistance of the Garden Club of London with decorations of the Victorian and Edwardian eras.eldonhouse

Happy Anniversary Eldon House
Eldon House is 175 years old. Share in the celebrations.

This beautiful heritage home was built for John and Amelia Harris in 1834, who moved into it with their eight children. Set on a piece of high ground overlooking the forks of the Thames, near the District courthouse, which still stands today, this home has been open to public visitors since the 1960s, when it was gifted to the city as a museum. Londoners can be proud of this important piece of architecture and its upkeep, making this home one of the premier heritage properties in Ontario.

From September 2009 to August 2010, plans are underway to celebrate this special year. Watch this space for details.
